Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, Sends Letter to Minister Kang Kyung-wha "Thanks for Facilitating Diagnostic Kit Exports"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sent a letter of appreciation to Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha regarding the South Korean government's facilitation of exports of COVID-19 diagnostic kits.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the 28th at the Seoul Dorim-dong office that Secretary Pompeo sent a letter on the 25th to Minister Kang expressing gratitude for South Korea's arrangement to purchase 750,000 COVID-19 diagnostic tests for Americans. On the 24th of last month, President Moon Jae-in, at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump, promoted support for diagnostic kits, resulting in three domestic companies exporting 750,000 tests.
The official explained, "Secretary Pompeo's letter conveyed that South Korea's swift establishment of a comprehensive response plan to prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19 serves as a model worldwide, and that the United States highly values cooperation with South Korea in the process of responding in an open and transparent manner."
He added, "Close cooperation between countries in similar situations and private partners during crises is important for a rapid and effective response," and "expressed gratitude to the South Korean government for its prompt response and to the three South Korean private companies that enabled this critical procurement."

Meanwhile, Secretary Pompeo also expressed his appreciation by sharing a tweet from Harry Harris, the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, regarding support for Hyundai Motor's drive-thru testing system and the donation of diagnostic kits. Ambassador Harris wrote in his tweet, "Thanks to Kia Motors, producing protective face shields for medical heroes at the West Point factory in Georgia, USA," adding, "They are producing over 200,000 units per month for Americans who are struggling. Kia fighting!"
