Transparent Umbrellas to Reduce Child Accidents... Hyundai Mobis Focuses on Specialized Social Contributions
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Mobis, as a comprehensive automotive parts company, is conducting specialized social contribution activities company-wide.
The representative social contribution activity, the Transparent Umbrella Sharing Campaign, was inspired by the fact that children, who have lower attention and judgment skills than adults, have difficulty securing visibility under umbrellas on rainy days, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Accordingly, Hyundai Mobis has been producing 100,000 transparent umbrellas annually since 2010 and distributing them free of charge to elementary schools nationwide. The cumulative number of transparent umbrellas distributed has exceeded 900,000 as of last year, and surpassing 1 million this year is expected. Recently, research results have also been announced showing that the transparent umbrella campaign has reduced child traffic accidents by nearly 30%.
The Junior Engineering Classroom, which fosters scientifically gifted children, held its first class in 2005 for students of Gyodong Elementary School near the Technology Research Center in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. Currently, it has expanded to elementary schools near Hyundai Mobis business sites and is operating its 15th year this year.
The Hyundai Mobis Eco-friendly Ecological Forest was established as 'Mir Forest' near Chopyeong Lake in Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk, in cooperation with the Korea National Trust for Nature Conservation, investing 10 billion KRW since 2012. It covers an area of 108 hectares (approximately 330,000 pyeong). This site is composed of six themed spaces for forest healing, flora and fauna observation, and wetland experiences, allowing visitors to actually experience the values of coexistence between nature and humans and respect for biodiversity.
