Naver-KISTEP Collaborate to Utilize Academic Performance Information of National R&D Projects
Naver Provides 'Scalytics' Research Results and Statistics
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Naver announced on the 28th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP) to enhance the usability of academic performance information in national research and development projects.
KISTEP is a government-funded institution under the Ministry of Science and ICT, responsible for planning science and technology policies, allocating and adjusting R&D budgets, evaluating national research and development projects, and conducting preliminary feasibility studies for R&D.
Naver plans to cooperate with KISTEP to activate the collection, distribution, and utilization of academic performance information from national research and development projects. Naver will provide researcher-specific research performance statistics and research trend information by academic field, aggregated through its currently developing research evaluation solution, "Scholytics."
Through this MOU, Naver expects to systematically establish related policies based on the analysis of research trends in the science and technology sector. This year, the government’s R&D project budget is 24 trillion KRW, accounting for about 6% of the total national budget, indicating its large scale.
The Naver Scholytics utilized in this collaboration is a research evaluation solution that identifies researchers and their affiliated institutions based on 230 million global top-level paper metadata and 1.25 billion references secured by Naver Academic Information. Unlike existing research evaluation solutions that only provide research performance by universities worldwide, it allows checking research performance indicators at the college and department levels, offering the advantage of identifying excellent sub-organizations within universities.
