Approval Granted for New Elementary School and Kindergarten in Incheon Geomdan New Town... Scheduled to Open in 2023
Geomdan 1 Elementary School Requests Reconsideration of Central Investment Review by the Ministry of Education
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 28th that the establishment of the tentatively named 'Geomdan 3 Elementary School' and 'Geomdan 11 Kindergarten' was approved at the recent Ministry of Education Central Investment Review.
Accordingly, with the establishment of Geomdan 3 Elementary School located in the southern section of Wondang-daero in the first phase area of Geomdan New Town, stable placement of students flowing in from 13,785 households expected to move in by January 2023 will be ensured.
Additionally, Geomdan 11 Kindergarten, a public single-establishment kindergarten located in the northern section of Wondang-daero, initially had no site, but after demands from residents eager for public education and consultations with related agencies, additional school land was secured.
The Office of Education expects that the establishment of these schools will resolve the issue of overcrowded classes within Geomdan New Town and provide safe commuting conditions.
In the first phase area of Geomdan New Town, the establishment of 9 out of a total of 12 schools has been confirmed. However, the tentatively named 'Geomdan 1 Elementary School,' which the Office of Education requested to establish along with these schools at this Ministry of Education Central Investment Review, was not approved.

An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "Since the supply volume in Geomdan New Town has been secured, we plan to re-request the establishment of Geomdan 1 Elementary School at the next Central Investment Review," adding, "We will continue to closely examine development projects such as apartment construction in Songdo, Geomdan, Cheongna, and Yeongjong areas and promote timely school establishments."
