Gimhae City-Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute Open 'Gimhae Lab' for AI Manufacturing Innovation

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam Province and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) have joined hands to realize AI-based advanced manufacturing innovation in response to the 4th Industrial Revolution.
On the 27th, Gimhae City announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with ETRI at the Gimhae Small and Medium Business Center and opened the 'AI Manufacturing Innovation Gimhae Laboratory.'
The event was attended by about 20 people, including Heo Seong-gon, Mayor of Gimhae, Kim Myung-jun, Director of ETRI, representatives of both organizations, and Kim Hyung-soo, Chairman of the Gimhae City Council. The ceremony proceeded with the signing, a report on future cooperation plans, the unveiling ceremony of the jointly established AI Manufacturing Innovation Gimhae Laboratory, and a tour.
Through this MOU, the two organizations agreed to mutually cooperate on ▲ joint R&D planning and demonstration for AI-based advanced manufacturing innovation ▲ development of core ICT convergence technologies and support for the growth of innovative small and medium enterprises in regional strategic industries such as bio-health and medical device industries, future automobile parts industries, and future new industries ▲ discovery, planning, and support of new projects through cooperation with related local institutions.
In particular, with the opening of the AI Manufacturing Innovation Gimhae Laboratory, the bio-health and medical device sector’s Small but Strong R&D Special Zone project, which will be in full swing from this year, is expected to gain momentum, and the city’s priority project of smart factory advancement is also expected to accelerate.
The city has established 291 smart factories so far and aims to build an additional 600 by 2022, including 200 applications received last year.
Kim Myung-jun, Director of ETRI, said, "Based on the advanced technology and research capabilities possessed by ETRI, we will work together to innovate manufacturing in the Gimhae region and foster future new industries."
