May 7: Three Carriers Launch Unlocked Units Online and Offline
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' budget smartphone in the 300,000 KRW range, the 'Galaxy A31,' sold out within a day of starting pre-orders.
According to industry sources on the 27th, the Galaxy A31 unlocked model sold through Samsung.com, Coupang, and 11st was completely sold out on the day pre-orders began. On Coupang, all 500 units were sold out within 10 hours of starting pre-orders.
Before the product was even available for offline demonstration, the pre-order quantity was fully sold out online with only the specifications disclosed. Although the pre-sale quantity is smaller compared to the official launch quantity, it is rare for a mid-range smartphone to sell out within a day. Samsung Electronics plans to sell both carrier models and unlocked models online and offline starting from the official release date of May 7.
The excellent cost-effectiveness (performance relative to price) and the 20% discount benefit offered to pre-purchasers are believed to have contributed to the rapid depletion of pre-order stock. A Coupang representative said, "Thanks to the enthusiastic support, the initial stock of the Galaxy A31 sold out earlier than expected."
