Gwangyang City 'Eco-friendly Agriculture University' Opens in May
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it will officially start operating the ‘2020 Basic Farming Settlement Technology Education (6th Course for Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village) and the 23rd Gwangyang City Eco-friendly Agriculture University’ from May.
This education program was prepared to nurture returnees to farming and professional farmers who will lead the future of Gwangyang agriculture.
The Basic Farming Settlement Technology Education Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village course will be held 27 times for 106 hours every Tuesday and Thursday from the 7th of next month until October 15.
The Eco-friendly Agriculture University Organic Farming course will be conducted 27 times for 109 hours every Monday from the 11th of next month until November 9.
The Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village course is designed as a curriculum that supports opportunities to experience pre-information acquisition, farming technology education, and field training for the successful settlement of those who have chosen to return to farming or villages, and visits various successful farms in the region to help set up a return-to-farming or return-to-village plan suitable for themselves.
The Organic Farming course provides theoretical and practical education on basic agricultural knowledge such as soil management and crop cultivation, and upon completion, participants can obtain the Organic Farming Technician certification.
Jung Ok-ja, Director of Technology Extension Division, said, “We will operate the Gwangyang Eco-friendly Agriculture University solidly as a place for training professional farmers who can greatly contribute to the development of Gwangyang agriculture.”
The city plans to operate the education while maintaining social distancing guidelines related to COVID-19, such as temperature checks at the education entrance, requiring trainees to wear masks, and keeping a 2-meter safety distance.
Meanwhile, the Basic Farming Settlement Technology Education Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village course has produced a total of 189 graduates from 2015 to last year, greatly contributing to the increase of the agricultural population in Gwangyang City.

Also, the city’s Eco-friendly Agriculture University has produced a total of 1,052 graduates from 2005 to last year, establishing itself as a training center for professionals for the development of Gwangyang agriculture.
