On the 27th, Yeosu City announced that it received the Grand Prize in the event category at the '2019 Korea Metropolitan and Basic Local Governments Public PR Awards Ceremony' held in Seoul on the 24th, recognizing its promotional achievements using web dramas.
Organized by the Korean Advertising and Public Relations Society and sponsored by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Public PR Awards selected local governments nationwide from 255 metropolitan and basic local governments that achieved excellent promotional results last year, awarding grand prizes in three categories: events, SNS, and policy promotion, as well as an overall grand prize.
Six local governments including Yeosu City, Busan Metropolitan City, and Chungcheongbuk-do were selected as award candidates after the first document screening, and the final winners were decided through case presentations on the day of the ceremony and comprehensive discussions by judges composed of professors in advertising and public relations.
Yeosu City has produced and released new works annually from 2016's 'Sinjikki's Love Story', 2017's 'Yeomyeong', 2018's 'Manyeomok', to last year's 'Dongbaek'.
The Yeosu web dramas, which cover various themes from local folktales to history, have been recognized for their artistic quality by sweeping awards at domestic and international web film festivals upon each release.
In particular, the web drama 'Dongbaek', based on the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident, won the '2019 Seoul Web Fest Special Award' and the '2019 Spain Bilbao Web Fest Golden Wolf Award', forming a global consensus on the enactment of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident Special Act, and is praised for surpassing the limits of tourism promotional web dramas.
'Dongbaek' is scheduled to be broadcast on a Canadian multicultural TV channel.
This year, Yeosu City plans to release the web drama 'Hojupmong', an SF genre work that traverses Yeosu in the year 2100 and the present day.
