Damyang-gun to Distribute 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Starting from the 28th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeonnam Province (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 27th that it will start providing the ‘Jeonnam-type Public Interest Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen’ from the 28th to support farmers, fishermen, and local small business owners who are struggling due to COVID-19.
The Jeonnam-type Public Interest Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen is a system being implemented for the first time this year to guarantee the public value of agriculture and fisheries and to promote sustainable rural development.
The county originally planned to pay 300,000 KRW each in the first and second halves of the year, but due to the economic difficulties faced by farmers caused by COVID-19, it decided to pay the full amount in the first half to stabilize farmers’ livelihoods and revitalize the local economy.
Among the total 7,744 applicants, 737 were excluded from support due to reasons such as not residing at the registered address or not meeting the agricultural or fishery business address requirements, and a total of 7,007 households will receive 600,000 KRW each, distributed as Damyang Sarang Gift Certificates worth 4.2 billion KRW.
The Jeonnam-type Public Interest Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen to be paid this time will be distributed intensively next month by local agricultural cooperatives visiting villages to ensure social distancing for COVID-19 prevention and convenience for local residents.
Applicants can receive the allowance on-site by bringing an ID card that can verify their identity.
If the allowance is not received during the village tour period, it can be collected by visiting the local agricultural cooperative in charge of the registered address.
Damyang Sarang Gift Certificates can be used in various sectors easily accessible to farmers in their daily lives, such as traditional markets, restaurants, beauty salons, and gas stations, and it is expected that the weakened local small business districts will recover early.
