Support Plans for Traditional Market Merchants, Small Business Owners, and Micro-Entrepreneurs
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] KT labor and management have decided to provide employee welfare points early in the form of 'Onnuri Gift Certificates' to contribute to revitalizing the economy weakened by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
On the 27th, KT and the KT Labor Union held an emergency labor-management meeting and decided to execute the welfare budget planned for this year ahead of schedule and provide Onnuri Gift Certificates worth 1 million KRW per employee. The purpose is to support traditional market merchants, small business owners, and small-scale self-employed individuals who have suffered severe damage due to the sluggish domestic market caused by the recent spread of COVID-19.
Accordingly, welfare points, which are usually paid in May and July, will be immediately converted into Onnuri Gift Certificates for employees who wish to purchase them, and the company will additionally support part of the amount. KT has about 23,000 employees, and the total amount KT is expected to spend on purchasing Onnuri Gift Certificates under this decision could reach up to 23 billion KRW.
KT plans to launch a company-wide campaign in May to encourage concentrated use of Onnuri Gift Certificates in connection with Family Month, aiming to contribute to revitalizing the local economy weakened by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
