[Profile] Gogi-yeong, New Deputy Minister of Justice
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] On the 27th, President Moon Jae-in appointed Ko Ki-young, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (age 55, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 23), as the new Deputy Minister of Justice.
Deputy Minister Ko, originally from Gwangju, was promoted to Chief Prosecutor in the prosecution personnel reshuffle conducted in July 2017 after the Moon Jae-in administration took office. Since then, he has served as Director of the Crime Prevention Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Justice, Head of the Violent Crimes Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Chief Prosecutor of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office. Deputy Minister Ko is a classmate (class 23) of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl (age 61), Deputy Chief Prosecutor Koo Bon-sun (age 52), and Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Lee Sung-yoon (age 58) at the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
After being appointed Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office in the personnel reshuffle on January 8, Deputy Minister Ko indicted former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk without detention on charges including ordering the cover-up of the inspection of former Busan City Deputy Mayor Yoo Jae-soo.
