Galaxy Watch2 to Launch in Second Half of Year with Larger Battery and Storage Capacity
Storage Capacity 8GB, Battery 330mAh
Equipped with Blood Pressure, ECG, Heart Rate, and Sleep Monitoring Functions
Expected to Launch in August Alongside Galaxy Note20
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Watch successor, set to be released in the second half of the year, will feature improved battery and storage capacity compared to its predecessor.
According to IT media SamMobile on the 26th (local time), Samsung Electronics received certification from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on the 23rd for two smartwatches presumed to be the Galaxy Watch 2 or Galaxy Watch Active 3.
The upcoming successor is expected to have significantly increased storage and battery capacity compared to the existing Galaxy Watch. Reviewing the certified product details in China, the storage capacity is 8GB, doubling that of the previous model, and the battery capacity is 330mAh, a substantial improvement over the Galaxy Watch Active 2 40mm model (247mAh).
The product model numbers are SM-R840 and 845, SM-R850 and 855, which will be released in two sizes and in Wi-Fi and cellular models. Models 840 and 850 are likely Wi-Fi versions, while 845 and 855 are expected to be cellular models.
Health-related features equipped in the existing Galaxy Watch Active 2 are expected to be supported in the successor as well. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 includes electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate measurement, sleep tracking, and blood pressure measurement functions. Although the sensor capable of ECG measurement is installed, the feature has not yet been updated. The 'Samsung Health Monitor' app, which supports blood pressure measurement, recently received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and is scheduled for release in the third quarter; it is also known to be applied to both the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and the successor model.
