Honam University Freshmen Psychological Counseling 'Honam Maeum Call' Receives Positive Reviews
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Student Counseling Center at Honam University (Director Kim Mirye) announced on the 26th that it operated the ‘Honam Mind Call,’ a 1-on-1 telephone counseling program to check the psychological state of 1,689 freshmen from the 23rd of last month to the 10th of this month.
As a result of cross-analyzing the satisfaction of 1,389 respondents to the telephone counseling, the scores out of 10 were as follows: 1,128 (81.2%) gave a perfect 10, 122 (8.8%) gave 9, 100 (7.2%) gave 8, 27 (1.9%) gave 7, 6 (0.4%) did not respond, and 3 (0.2%) each gave 6 and 5.
The counseling was conducted by two professional counselors from the Student Counseling Center and 15 guest counselors following an 8-step counseling manual. If it was determined during the first counseling session that support for depression and mental health was needed, a second video counseling session was conducted.
As a result of the counseling, most students felt that ▲ the school’s sincerity in caring for students’ psychological stability was evident through calling each student individually to ask about psychological distress and difficulties in daily life, and ▲ they appreciated being listened to with a comforting voice and receiving career counseling.
Additionally, some respondents expressed difficulties with online classes overall, such as burdens from somewhat difficult-to-understand lecture content and assignments, especially since they had never experienced in-person classroom lectures or met professors and friends.
