Among 574 Government Ministry Committees, 18 Abolished or Merged
71 Units Are Operationally Active... Rapid Maintenance Through Batch Legislative Measures When Necessary
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Among the 574 various committees under government ministries, 18 committees with poor meeting performance, those operated only in a formal manner such as written meetings, or those whose necessity has significantly decreased due to changes in the policy environment will be abolished or merged.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 26th that it has finalized a plan to reorganize 89 committees, accounting for 16% of all administrative agency committees, and will proceed with reorganization procedures such as downgrading their affiliation from the Prime Minister's Office to the respective ministries.
Accordingly, 11 committees including the "Information and Communications Infrastructure Protection Committee (Office for Government Policy Coordination)" and the "Farm Income Stabilization Deliberation Committee (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs)" will be abolished, and 7 committees such as the "Real Estate Price Stabilization Deliberation Committee (Ministry of Economy and Finance)" will be merged with related policy committees like the "Housing Policy Deliberation Committee (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport)."
Additionally, 71 committees with low meeting performance but whose functions need to be maintained, such as the "Health and Medical Policy Deliberation Committee (Ministry of Health and Welfare)," "Balanced Growth Promotion Committee (Ministry of SMEs and Startups)," "Military Health Care Development Promotion Committee (Ministry of National Defense)," and "Convenience Promotion Deliberation Committee (Ministry of Health and Welfare)," will have their operations revitalized.
According to this reorganization plan, each committee's responsible ministry must establish an implementation plan, submit it to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and disclose the progress on the ministry’s website. Follow-up measures such as legal amendments for the abolition and merger of the target committees must also be carried out.
Furthermore, committees targeted for operational revitalization should be practically managed by measures such as downgrading their affiliation from the Prime Minister's Office to the respective ministries, expanding the appointment of civilian members, and broadening the scope of deliberation agendas to increase the frequency of meetings.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will periodically check the progress of the reorganization, disclose it on its website, and recommend necessary actions to ministries where reorganization is delayed.

Lee Jae-young, Director of Government Innovation and Organization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "Since most of the committees targeted for reorganization require legal amendments, close cooperation with the responsible ministries is essential going forward," adding, "We will actively promote reorganization such as operational revitalization so that committees can serve as trusted communication spaces for the public."
