Specialized Cities Created with Expert Participation... Appointment of Chief Planner for 3rd Phase New Towns
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 26th that it has appointed a total of 17 Master Planners (MP) for the 3rd phase new towns, Hanam Gyosan and Namyangju Wangsuk 2 District.
The Master Planner system operates to provide expert advice across all fields of urban development during the district planning stage of new towns. LH has nearly doubled the number of Master Planners from 4-5 per district in the 2nd phase new towns to actively reflect social demands in the district plans for the 3rd phase new towns and to establish them as future urban models.
In Hanam Gyosan District, 10 Master Planners were appointed across 10 fields including urban planning, transportation, cultural heritage, and urban design, with Professor Heo Jae-wan of Chung-Ang University serving as the chairman. Similarly, in Namyangju Wangsuk 2 District, 7 Master Planners were appointed across 7 fields under the chairmanship of Professor Koo Ja-hoon of Hanyang University. The appointment of Master Planners for 8 fields in Namyangju Wangsuk 1 District was completed on the 1st of this month.
Notably, Hanam Gyosan District appointed a cultural heritage expert as a Master Planner for the first time in a new town. Through this, LH plans to establish rational cultural preservation and maintenance measures from the early stages of district planning and create creative urban spaces where citizens can experience historical and cultural resources.
Additionally, in the urban design field, Min Hyun-sik, the representative of Kyungan Urban Design Architecture Office Consortium, whose work was selected as the best entry for Hanam Gyosan District in last month's '3rd Phase New Town Urban Space Planning Competition,' will participate as a Master Planner, contributing to the development of differentiated urban and architectural environment plans from existing cities.
In Namyangju Wangsuk 2 District, a cultural field Master Planner was appointed to foster a cultural hub city. With the participation of cultural experts, plans will be developed to specialize spaces where culture, housing, and jobs harmonize, aiming to create a vibrant city.
LH held kickoff meetings after completing the appointments of Master Planners for Namyangju Wangsuk 2 District and Hanam Gyosan District on the 22nd and 24th, respectively. During these meetings, they discussed district issues, plans established so far, winning competition entries, and future planning strategies.
