Lee Jae-jung Visits 4·19 Democratic Cemetery: "The Spirit of 4·19 is the Starting Point of Gyeonggi Education"
[Asia Economy (Seoul) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-jung, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, announced that he will carry on the spirit of the April 19 Democracy Movement through Gyeonggi democratic citizenship education.
On the 60th anniversary of the April 19 Democratic Revolution this year, on the 24th, Superintendent Lee visited the National April 19 Democratic Cemetery in Seoul with senior officials from the education office, laid flowers and incense, and wrote in the guestbook, "We will carry on the spirit of April 19 democracy through Gyeonggi democratic citizenship education."
Superintendent Lee also said, "Although 60 years have passed since the April 19 Democratic Revolution, it remains a vivid and living history for us," adding, "I hope students will come to the April 19 Democratic Cemetery for field experiential learning to have the opportunity to understand and interpret the past history."
He continued, "The spirit of April 19 is the starting point of Gyeonggi democratic citizenship education," explaining, "Democratic citizenship education is the foundation that can achieve a just society and a history of peace."
Superintendent Lee paid respects at the gravesites of martyr Kim Ju-yeol and his friend martyr Lee Jong-yang, who were key figures in the April 19 Revolution.
