This observation was carried out as a measure to prevent recurrence of the radioactive waste nuclide analysis error incident at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute.
The procedure involved verifying the acceptance criteria for radioactive waste that passed the preliminary inspection at the generation site through document and visual inspections, as well as actual measurements such as X-ray and nuclide analysis.
Radioactive waste that passes the acceptance inspection undergoes regulatory disposal inspections before final disposal.
The Korea Radioactive Waste Agency has established a policy to transparently disclose the radioactive waste inspection process to local residents and strengthen safety management.
Earlier in January, 17 members including Ha Daegeun, Vice Chairman of the monitoring organization, directly confirmed the acceptance inspection process of radioactive waste from Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant brought into the disposal facility.
