Prime Minister Jeong: "Stable Supply of Public Masks... 3 Masks Per Person Starting Next Week" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on the 24th, "Starting next week, the purchase limit for public masks will be expanded to 3 masks per person."
Prime Minister Chung presided over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting on the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) held at the Government Seoul Office and stated, "As the 5-day rotation system for public masks has been established, the supply of masks has stabilized significantly."
Previously, to resolve the mask shortage, the government had implemented the 5-day rotation system from the 9th of last month, limiting the purchase of public masks to 2 per week based on the year of birth.
Prime Minister Chung said, "Although it is still cautious, we now have the capacity to look out for neighboring countries in need," and added, "On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the June 25th War this year, we will supply a total of 1 million masks for the veterans who protected our country."
He further explained, "We will closely monitor the mask supply situation and exceptionally allow overseas export to demand sectors with national consensus, as long as it does not cause problems in domestic supply."
Prime Minister Chung also emphasized, "Starting from the 27th, we will introduce safety bands to manage those violating self-quarantine and enhance the functionality of the application (app). For violators who refuse to wear them, we will not only punish the violations but also isolate them in separate facilities to improve management efficiency."
