[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Singer and actor Park Yoo-chun, who was subject to detention trial at Uijeongbu District Court due to sexual misconduct allegations, said, "Mayor Ahn Byung-yong of Uijeongbu gave me sincere advice and encouraging words as a senior in life."
On the 23rd, Park Yoo-chun posted on his official Instagram, "There have been many speculative articles due to today's meeting between Mayor Ahn Byung-yong and me, and I am concerned that I might cause inconvenience to the mayor and city officials, so I am writing this post," he said.
Park Yoo-chun explained, "Today's meeting with the mayor was arranged through the connection between my manager, who has been by my side for a long time, and the mayor," adding, "The mayor, whom I have always respected, gave me sincere advice and many encouraging words as a senior in life."
He continued, "He told me to fully acknowledge my past mistakes and live with a sincere heart of repentance, striving for community service and improving the living environment of vulnerable groups," and said, "I will always keep such sincere advice in my heart and try to put it into practice."
He added, "Once again, I express my gratitude to the mayor of Uijeongbu and the city hall officials, and I hope that no harm will come to them because of me."
Earlier, Park Yoo-chun appeared at Uijeongbu District Court on the 22nd for a detention trial. One of the women who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by him was cleared of charges, and he was held liable for damages in a civil lawsuit. However, in December last year, the woman filed a property disclosure request because Park Yoo-chun did not pay the damages, and as he did not comply, a detention trial was held on the 22nd.
Additionally, in July last year, Park Yoo-chun was indicted in April for purchasing 1.5g of methamphetamine three times with his ex-girlfriend Hwang Hana (31), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, and using it six times at Hwang's residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
He held an emergency press conference denying drug use strongly and stated that he would retire from the entertainment industry if found guilty. However, during the trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year probation.
