Gwanak-gu's Full Effort to Support Vulnerable Groups Including Women and Children to Overcome COVID-19
Multifaceted Efforts Including Childcare Coupon Distribution, Job Creation for Vulnerable Women, and Distribution of Quarantine Supplies... Comprehensive Support Extended to Quarantine Blind Spots Such as Multicultural Families and Facilities for Women Victims of Violence
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is gaining attention for providing multifaceted support to vulnerable groups such as women, children, and multicultural families who are struggling due to COVID-19.
On April 13, the district completed the payment of a total of 5.8 billion KRW in childcare coupons worth 400,000 KRW per child to approximately 14,500 children under the age of 7 (as of March) who are eligible for child allowance. The district plans to complete payments by early May to those with card information errors and gift card applicants who have not yet received the childcare coupons.
In addition, efforts are being made to strengthen infection prevention measures in daycare centers, where the use of emergency childcare has been continuously increasing due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The district has completed the provision of 40,514 masks and 6,491 hand sanitizers for infants and childcare staff, as well as 246 thermometers, and plans to additionally provide about 118,000 masks and disinfection expenses for infants and childcare teachers next month.
In particular, multicultural families facing difficulties purchasing public masks are receiving a total of 4,500 masks distributed at five masks per person upon application, and the Healthy Family Support Center, which is conducting the child care worker project, has completed the distribution of 4,500 masks and about 500 hand sanitizers.
Furthermore, to create jobs for vulnerable women facing economic crises, the district plans to recruit 17 people for positions including ▲counselors at women’s violence victim protection facilities ▲assistants at women’s violence victim protection facilities ▲women’s class operators ▲surveyors for women’s single-person household safety village status ▲operators of the Women’s Safety Net.
This is expected to have a twofold effect by utilizing personnel to solve local community women’s issues while promoting the livelihood stability of vulnerable women.
Additionally, the district is providing daily necessities and disinfection supplies to vulnerable crisis families and women’s violence victim facilities, ensuring thorough support for vulnerable groups in blind spots of quarantine.
