President Min Kyung-jun Accelerates 'Corporate Citizenship' Activities... POSCO Chemical Launches Disabled Athletes Team
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO Chemical is actively practicing corporate citizenship by launching a sports team for athletes with disabilities. The company creates jobs by hiring disabled athletes as employees and systematically supports their performance improvement.
On the 23rd, POSCO Chemical invited the athletes to the company and held a launch ceremony for the disabled athletes' team. The ceremony was attended by athletes, their guardians, CEO Min Kyung-jun, and officials from the National Paralympic Committee. POSCO Chemical presented the athletes with gifts such as uniforms to be worn during training and competitions and provided opportunities to tour the company.
The team consists of 11 disabled athletes from three sports: one track and field athlete from the Gyeongbuk region, four table tennis players, and six swimmers from the Jeonnam region. Notably, the team includes several top athletes representing their regions, such as Jeon Hae-jin, a track and field athlete who won medals at the National Paralympic Games, table tennis player Kim Hee-jung, and swimmer Lee Eun-bi.
Composed entirely of athletes with severe disabilities, the POSCO Chemical team plans to participate in various domestic and international competitions, including the National Paralympic Games. The company will support the team’s participation in competitions and help improve their performance through training at the corporate level.
POSCO Chemical’s establishment of a sports team for athletes with disabilities is part of its commitment to corporate citizenship management philosophy. The company has been leading job creation for people with disabilities through active hiring. Additionally, it founded the social enterprise Laundry Coffee, employing disabled individuals as baristas, and supports local welfare organizations for the disabled through departmental partnerships, continuing various efforts to support socially vulnerable groups as part of its corporate citizenship practice.
