Gwangju Seo-gu's Full Effort to Create an 'Urban Green Village'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) is putting all its efforts into completing the ‘2020 New Renewable Energy Supply (Convergence Support) Project,’ selected last year through a public contest, to create an ‘Urban Green Village.’
According to Seo-gu on the 23rd, more than 90% of the solar power installation work has been completed for about 200 households in the Hwajeong 3-dong area, the target of this year’s project, contributing to the supply, use, and expansion of new renewable energy. They plan to complete the creation of the Urban Green Village through additional applications.
Although the Hwajeong 3-dong area had only a 4% supply rate of new renewable energy (such as solar power and solar heat), once this year’s project is completed, the supply rate of new renewable energy will reach 18%, approaching the government’s ‘Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan.’
Additionally, Seo-gu will recruit applicants for the ‘2021 New Renewable Energy Supply (Convergence Support) Project,’ targeting about 500 households in the adjacent areas of Hwajeong 3-dong, Sangmu 1 and 2-dong, Hwajeong 1-dong, and Geumho 1-dong.
Applications can be made at the respective dong administrative welfare centers. This project requires residents to pay only 15% (750,000 KRW) of the total cost (5.1 million KRW) for a 3 kW residential solar power system, so residents in the area are advised to apply promptly.
A Seo-gu official said, “We are receiving inquiries from residents in the area, and residents from other regions are asking ‘when the project will be carried out,’ showing great interest in the convergence support project. Although social distancing continues due to COVID-19, we plan to carry out various promotional activities to recruit applicants, so we ask for active participation from residents.”
