Operating 'Nowon Music Broadcast' Where DJs Play Requests and Stories Received via KakaoTalk
Music Broadcast via 26 Amps and 592 Speakers along 2.9km Danghyeoncheon and 6.3km Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail... DJ Introduces Stories and Song Requests Received in Real-Time Open Chat from Mon to Sat, 6-8 PM
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will start 'Nowon Music Broadcast' from the 27th, where residents can take a walk along Danghyeoncheon Stream and Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, share stories, and listen to requested songs.
The music broadcast will operate from Monday to Saturday along the 2.9km section of Danghyeoncheon and the 6.3km section of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail. From 12 PM to 4 PM, various genres such as trot, ballad, and classical music will be played, and from 6 PM to 8 PM, a DJ will host a live broadcast. It will not operate on Sundays and public holidays.
The highlight of 'Nowon Music Broadcast' is the evening live broadcast hosted by a DJ from 6 PM to 8 PM. Stories and song requests are received in real-time through a KakaoTalk open chat room. It aims to evoke nostalgic memories of requesting songs on the radio for parents and to transform the ordinary Danghyeoncheon and Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail into memorable spots with a participatory music broadcast concept for the younger generation.
Song requests and story submissions can be made by searching 'Nowon Music Broadcast' on KakaoTalk and joining the open chat room or by scanning the QR codes on promotional banners posted throughout Danghyeoncheon and the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail.
The broadcast operation is managed by the Nowon Village Media Center, which previously conducted music broadcasts by receiving song requests during the Danghyeoncheon Lantern Festival at the end of April last year.
Two professional DJs to host the evening broadcasts from the media center’s 4th floor were selected through an open recruitment. They were chosen from a competitive pool with a 5:1 ratio and have experience as MCs and reporters on public and radio broadcasts. They will host broadcasts on alternate days, showcasing their unique personalities.
Over the past six months, the district installed 26 amplifiers and a total of 592 speakers, including replacements of old speakers, along the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail and Danghyeoncheon to provide high-quality music broadcasts.
In addition, great effort was put into system construction, including installing a private communication network and setting up a broadcasting system within the Nowon Village Media Center.
In particular, the old speakers installed for disaster broadcast purposes such as flood warnings along Danghyeoncheon were upgraded to high-quality speakers suitable for music broadcasting.
Resident inconvenience due to the broadcast will also be minimized. A digital audio mixer maintains consistent sound output according to music genres. Speakers installed near residential areas were replaced with directional speakers that can adjust direction and were installed at lower heights than before. Along the Gyeongchun Line, stone-shaped speakers were installed to consider the surrounding aesthetics and to prevent sound from spreading too far.
Before full operation, from the 9th for three days, a professional research firm conducted a preference survey of 1,091 users of Danghyeoncheon and the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail. The survey investigated opinions on the DJ-hosted music broadcast, broadcast times, and music genres. Regarding the music broadcast, 72% responded positively, and 15% responded neutrally. Based on the survey, after three trial operations, residents’ reactions were enthusiastic, with comments such as “They really play the requested songs” and “It’s not boring and I like it!”
Furthermore, the music broadcast system will also be used as a medium for administrative services. Information helpful to residents, such as festival news, health services, and disaster safety, will be continuously provided.
