‘Reading Together the Seongdong Hope Challenge’ with Celebrities Including Insooni
Seongdong-gu Receives Positive Response with Hope Message Challenge Featuring Celebrities...Hope Message Videos Including Book Readings Uploaded on Seongdong-gu SNS to Support Overcoming COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid the spread and prolonged impact of COVID-19, various donation activities by many celebrities are continuing.
In this context, Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is gaining attention for its ‘Seongdong Hope Challenge Read Together,’ which shares videos of hopeful messages delivered by celebrities with residents.
The ‘Seongdong Hope Challenge Read Together’ is a challenge where celebrities record videos delivering hopeful messages through their favorite book passages and share them widely via Seongdong-gu’s official YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms.
This challenge was planned to encourage those spending extended time at home due to ongoing social distancing measures by delivering messages of hope, showing that they are not alone but together, and providing courage and vitality in life.
A total of six famous celebrities have donated their self-recorded videos to Seongdong-gu as a talent donation. The district is sequentially posting these videos on its official YouTube and social media channels to share with residents.
The challenge began on the 10th with webtoon artist Imalnyeon reading a passage from the book Shin Jo Hyeop Ryeo (author Kim Yong). Following this, singer Insooni delivered a hopeful message by singing her favorite part of her song “Happiness.” Idol group CLC’s Seungyeon, VIXX’s Leo, and musical director Kim Moon-jung also participated in the challenge consecutively. The month-long challenge concludes with CLC’s Seunghee’s video on the 28th.
VIXX’s Leo quoted a passage from Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being: “There is absolutely no way to compare, so there is no way to know which decision is better... Everything happened suddenly for the first time in life without any preparation... Like an actor who went on stage without any rehearsal,” delivering a message hoping for wise overcoming of the sudden current situation.
Musical director Kim Moon-jung shared a part from Riku Onda’s The Honeybee and the Thunder: “There are various sounds overflowing in the world now, but music is trapped inside a box... Actually, in the past, the whole world was filled with music,” mentioning that now is the time to realize the preciousness of everyday life we usually take for granted.

Additionally, Cube Entertainment, a famous agency established in Seongsu-dong in 2016, participated in this challenge by posting videos of their affiliated artists on their own social media, tagging ‘Seongdong-gu’ together. Yuseonho, singer Jo Kwon, Pentagon’s Yeo One and Kino, actor Na In-woo, and ATEEZ’s Wooyoung read their favorite book passages and delivered hopeful messages to overcome the COVID blues.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Although each video is only about 2 to 3 minutes long, I prepared this challenge thinking that celebrities delivering messages of hope in their own voices can be a great source of strength during these difficult times. I hope this will encourage more residents to find healing and hope through reading and that we will wisely overcome this crisis together.”
