[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Chong Kun Dang announced that it has selected three artists, Kim Sun-young (36), Yoo Seung-ho (46), and Choi Soo-ryun (34), as the winners of the 2020 Chong Kun Dang Art Award.
The Chong Kun Dang Art Award was launched in 2012 with the purpose of providing emerging artists who have participated in major art support programs with opportunities for creation and exhibition, thereby offering a chance to advance. It aims to provide a platform for proven emerging artists to take a step further by continuously supporting new artists over three years. The award is jointly organized by Chong Kun Dang, the Korea Mecenat Association, and Alternative Space Artspace Hue.
The 9th Chong Kun Dang Art Award selected painters aged 45 or younger from resident artists of major national and public creative studios and artists who participated in exhibitions at alternative and non-profit exhibition spaces during 2019-2020, through two rounds of closed judging. The first round judges included Ryu Cheol-ha, director of Daejeon Lee Ungno Museum of Art, art critic Ahn So-yeon, and Hwang Seok-kwon, editor-in-chief of Monthly Art. The second round judges were artist Hong Soon-myung, Yoon Jae-gap, director of China How Art Museum, and Kim No-am, director of Artspace Hue.
Selected artists receive a total of 30 million KRW in creative support funds, provided as 10 million KRW annually over three years. In the final year of the three-year support, a solo exhibition of the selected artist is held.
