Gyeongsang National University Decides on 'Fully Remote Home Classes' for Entire First Semester... Midterm Exams Canceled
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongsang National University announced on the 22nd that it will operate the entire first semester of the 2020 academic year as non-face-to-face remote classes (video lectures and real-time video lectures) based on the government's quarantine measures related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation and the survey results of faculty, staff, and students.
On the 20th, at the 22nd Emergency Response Committee meeting for COVID-19 infection, Gyeongsang National University decided to conduct the entire first semester as non-face-to-face remote classes reflecting the survey results and notified the faculty, staff, and students. At the emergency committee meeting, it was decided to operate the entire first semester as non-face-to-face remote classes but allow some face-to-face classes.
Face-to-face classes will be permitted only for small-scale courses with 10 or fewer students where social distancing is possible, such as experimental and practical subjects that are difficult to conduct remotely, and student teaching practice courses in the College of Education. If 70% of enrolled students agree, face-to-face classes will be opened, and videos for remote classes will be provided to students who do not agree. Some courses allowing face-to-face classes will be implemented sequentially from the 27th, with strict quarantine measures applied to ensure student safety.
Furthermore, if COVID-19 infections significantly decrease and the entire university can conduct face-to-face classes, this will be announced ten days in advance.
Since the entire first semester will be conducted as non-face-to-face remote classes, midterm exams will not be held in principle. However, the university stated that for courses where midterm exams are unavoidable, face-to-face exams are not allowed.
