Guro-gu Provides Online Learning Devices to Vulnerable Students
Seoul City and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Collaborate... Smart Pads Loaned to 2,114 Low-Income Families
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) collaborated with Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to provide online learning devices to 2,114 underprivileged students in the district.
Guro-gu announced on the 22nd that it lent smart pads to students from legally low-income families in the area who had difficulty participating in online classes due to lack of devices, following the implementation of online classes for elementary, middle, and high schools.
The support targets were legally low-income students: 799 elementary school students, 507 middle school students, and 808 high school students. These included recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, single-parent family protection beneficiaries, and students from the near-poverty class who applied for devices.
To lend the smart pads, Guro-gu provided 295.96 million KRW, while Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Office of Education each contributed 591.92 million KRW.

A Guro-gu official stated, “We are facing an unprecedented situation with online school openings and online classes due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will do our best to prevent any educational gaps for students in the district.”
