Prosecutors Continue Investigation of 'n번방' Operator Kelly... Previous Case Sentenced to 1 Year Imprisonment Confirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution's investigation into Shin Mo (32), known as 'Kelly,' the operator of the Telegram n-bunbang, who had his one-year prison sentence finalized after giving up on the appeal trial, is expected to continue.
Depending on the investigation results, Shin may face trial again separately from the previous case.
According to the legal community on the 21st, the prosecution is conducting an investigation into Shin's involvement in distributing other obscene materials and producing obscene content such as filming sexual videos, beyond the charges confirmed in the previous case.
The prosecution plans to impose criminal punishment appropriate to the severity of the crime through separate indictment procedures if Shin's charges are proven through supplementary investigations regarding the connection to the 'n-bunbang' case and whether there were accomplices.
Earlier, Shin submitted a withdrawal of appeal to the Chuncheon District Court on the 17th while undergoing the second trial for violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse (production and distribution of obscene materials), finalizing the original one-year prison sentence.
Shin was arrested and indicted last September on charges of inheriting the n-bunbang from 'GodGod,' the original operator of the sexual exploitation sharing room on Telegram, and selling about 2,500 out of approximately 90,000 obscene materials featuring children and adolescents.
Shin appealed the one-year sentence in the first trial, claiming the sentence was heavy, but appears to have given up the appeal after public calls for severe punishment intensified following the arrest of Jo Joo-bin (24), the operator of the 'Doctor's Room.'
