View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that County Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan visited a sweet potato seedling farm in Sanim-myeon on the 17th to conduct an on-site inspection amid an increase in sweet potato pest and disease incidence due to rising winter temperatures.
With the recent increase in sweet potato circular spot disease damage in seedling beds caused by this winter's warm climate, the county is strengthening on-site guidance for farms affected by pests and diseases.
Sweet potato circular spot disease starts from the part where the sweet potato seedling and soil meet in the seedling bed, as silky white mycelium wraps around the soil surface and stems, causing the seed sweet potato to rot and the stem to soften, wilt, and die.
If seedlings infected with circular spot disease are transplanted, continuous damage occurs during the cultivation period and storage, making prevention the most important measure.
This agricultural field visit was arranged to eliminate administrative gaps in the agricultural field that could be neglected while making every effort to overcome COVID-19, and to listen to the voices of farmers during the busy farming season and seek solutions.
Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan of Haenam-gun stated, “Due to the impact of COVID-19, the entry of foreign workers has been blocked, accelerating difficulties such as labor shortages in rural areas. We will carefully examine the field situation to minimize damage and ensure there is no disruption in producing premium Haenam sweet potatoes.”
