Minsaeng Party on Constitutional Court's Dismissal of 'Satellite Party Unconstitutionality Confirmation' Lawsuit: "Narrow Interpretation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 21st, the Minsheng Party commented on the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the constitutional complaint filed by the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice regarding the unconstitutionality of satellite parties, stating, "It is regrettable that the Constitutional Court dismissed the case on the grounds that 'only those whose constitutionally guaranteed basic rights have been infringed can file a petition,' as this appears to be a narrow interpretation of the people's rights."
Minsheng Party spokesperson Lee Yeon-gi said in a statement that day, "Considering the Constitutional Court's position, the Minsheng Party has filed a constitutional complaint in the names of the party and the proportional representation candidates," adding, "The candidates have clearly had their basic rights infringed by the emergence of satellite parties, so there is no lack of qualification as petitioners."
The spokesperson stated, "To prevent the hollowing out of politics that has lost the possibility of self-purification, an active role of the law is necessary," and added, "We hope discussions will not proceed in the direction that the general election has already been held and the will of the people has been definitively reflected."
He continued, "The constitutional complaint is the people's last choice to reject such a pragmatic reality," and said, "We hope the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court will carefully deliberate the satellite party issue with a sense of mission to uphold the basic framework of the state's existence and operation."

Regarding the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party, the spokesperson criticized, "It seems that the satellite parties are quietly negotiating the pros and cons of forming a negotiation group together with a certain party," adding, "Of course, since satellite parties were created solely to increase the number of seats, it is not strange that they form a negotiation group by 'lending one or two lawmakers'."
