View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon)'s first public-type local children's center, 'Gurip Hamkkehaneun Local Children's Center,' expanded and relocated on the 27th of last month to the newly constructed building on the 4th floor of Gangil 2 District Community Facility (95 Sangil-ro 12-gil).
The local children's center is a child welfare facility that provides after-school care for children and adolescents who need support, such as those from dual-income, single-parent, and multicultural families. It offers academic guidance, arts and physical education activities, and various cultural experience programs to help children and adolescents live healthy lives in a safe environment.
Gangdong-gu has about 550 children using local children's centers monthly.
Opened in May 2018, the Gangdong-gu Gurip Hamkkehaneun Local Children's Center is operated by the nonprofit organization Participation Labor Welfare Center. Before the completion of the Gangil 2 District Community Facility located in Gangil-dong, it was temporarily rented and operated in a building in Sangil-dong.
With the completion of the Gangil 2 District Community Facility, the Gurip Hamkkehaneun Local Children's Center found a new home. The area (198㎡) is more than twice as large as the previous facility, and interior renovations suitable for child welfare facilities were carried out to improve the after-school care environment.
This is the result of continuously promoting the project to expand the installation of public-type local children's centers, a pledge of the 7th-term Gangdong-gu mayor.
Also, with large apartment complexes and elementary schools nearby, accessibility for children and adolescents needing care has improved. Due to the increased area and improved care environment, the center's capacity is expected to expand from 19 to over 30 users.
Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu said, "With the relocation of the Gurip Hamkkehaneun Local Children's Center to a district-owned facility, we expect to provide more stable care services to children," adding, "We will continue to build a community where all children can grow up healthily without discrimination."
There are a total of 22 local children's centers in Gangdong-gu, of which three are public-type local children's centers: ▲ Gurip Hamkkehaneun Local Children's Center (Gangil·Sangil area) ▲ Gurip Gilli Youth Local Children's Center (Gildong area) ▲ Gurip Seongnae Local Children's Center (Seongnae area).
