Jungbu Power Donates 10,000 Protective Suits to Indonesia Amid COVID-19 Spread... Also Supplies Disinfectants
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Midland Power announced on the 20th that it donated 10,000 protective suits (worth $100,000) to Indonesia, where the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is spreading.
As of the 17th, Indonesia reported 5,516 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 496 deaths. Despite implementing strict quarantine measures, local medical staff are treating COVID-19 patients wearing raincoats due to insufficient protective supplies.
Accordingly, Korea Midland Power, with the help of the Korean Embassy in Indonesia and the Korea Garment Association (KOGA) in Indonesia, donated 10,000 protective suits to the Indonesian National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) and the local governments of Cirebon, Jepara, Karawang, and Lampung, where its operational sites are located. These suits were produced in Indonesia by six local Korean garment companies using fabric imported from Korea.
Park Hyung-gu, president of Korea Midland Power, stated, "We decided to donate on a humanitarian basis to contribute even a little to the safety of Indonesian medical staff who are fighting on the front lines to overcome COVID-19."
Meanwhile, the Cirebon power plant operated by Korea Midland Power recently signed an agreement with Cirebon City to supply sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl, a disinfectant) produced at the Cirebon power plant.
Sodium hypochlorite is a disinfectant commonly known as bleach. The decision to donate it to Cirebon quarantine authorities was based on the fact that it can be produced during the intermediate treatment process of seawater desalination at the Cirebon power plant.

A city official expressed gratitude, saying that they were able to resolve difficulties caused by a shortage and price increase of disinfectants for quarantine. Under the agreement, about 10 tons of sodium hypochlorite will be supplied daily until the COVID-19 situation is resolved.
