Citizens Create Guide Signs for Dongnimmun, Paldalmun, and Ojukheon
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 20th that it will hold a contest from June 1 to 15 for draft texts of information boards for twenty-five major designated cultural properties. The targeted cultural properties include Seoul’s Dongnimmun Gate, Busan’s Dadaepo Guesthouse, Daegu’s Old Provincial Daegu Hospital, Incheon Customs’ Old Warehouse and Annex, Gwangju Jeollanam-do Provincial Office Old Main Building, Daejeon Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Office Old Official Residence and Annex Warehouse, Ulsan Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeong Fortress, Sejong Yeongi Hyanggyo Confucian School, among others. Also included are Suwon Paldalmun Gate, Gangneung Ojukheon House, Goyang Byeokjegwan Site, Wonju Gangwon Gamyeong, Jecheon Uirimji and Jerim, Cheongju Yongdusaji Iron Flagpole, Cheonan Yu Gwan-sun Martyr Site, Old Gang-gyeong Labor Union, Iksan Mireuksaji Dangganjiju, Jeonju Pungpaejigwan, Old Boseong Inn, Mokpo Gatbawi Rock, Andong Beopheungsa Temple Seven-story Stone Pagoda, Yeongju Museom Village, Miryang Yeongnamnu Pavilion, Changwon Seongsan Shell Mound, and Seogwipo Jeongbang Waterfall.

The contest is open to all citizens of the Republic of Korea. Related documents can be downloaded from the Cultural Heritage Administration’s website. The Administration will select twenty-six entries through evaluation and award prizes such as laptop computers, air purifiers, and coffee machines. The winners will be announced on June 1. The Cultural Heritage Administration plans to renovate about 3,500 cultural property information boards by next year, adhering to principles of using simple and concise language for easy understanding, providing useful information focused on what the public wants to know, and reflecting local unique history and culture through engaging narratives.
