Expansion of Sales for Emart Electroman Fans and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Due to warmer-than-average weather, more customers are purchasing representative summer products such as watermelons and fans in advance.
According to Emart on the 20th, watermelon sales from the 1st to the 16th increased by about 10.4% compared to the same period last year. Fan sales also rose by 88.4%. In particular, circulators, which have emerged as essential products in offices and homes over the past 2-3 years, grew by an astonishing 1108% during the same period.
Emart anticipates that early summer products are gaining popularity as more customers feel the heat due to warmer spring weather than usual and large temperature differences between day and night. According to data from the Korea Meteorological Administration, the national average temperature in March this year was 7.9°C, making it the second warmest March on record since observations began. From March 16 to April 16, the national average temperature and average high temperature were 9.9°C and 16.7°C respectively, which are 1°C and 1.3°C higher than last year.
As watermelon demand increases, Emart will hold an event from the 23rd to the 29th featuring 100,000 watermelons harvested this year in the Ham-an, Buyeo, and Nonsan regions. This is 43% more volume than last year.
Emart is selling all watermelon products at a 4,000 KRW discount from the regular price when Shinsegae points are accumulated. Sugar-selected watermelons (weighing between 5kg and under 8kg, with 11 Brix or higher) are priced between 11,900 KRW and 16,900 KRW, while high-sugar watermelons (weighing between 5kg and under 8kg, with 12 Brix or higher) are available for 13,900 KRW to 18,900 KRW.
.
This event price is more than 10% cheaper than last year's watermelon event price. Although the market price at the production sites is about 10% higher than last year, Emart was able to lower prices through annual crop contracts with local farmers.
Emart operates a quality guarantee system that offers a 100% refund if the purchased watermelon is low in sweetness or of poor quality. Customers who are not satisfied with the taste or quality of the watermelon can visit the store with their receipt within 7 days of purchase to receive a refund.
Meanwhile, Emart is also launching full-scale sales of fans, a representative summer product. The main products include four types of Electroman fans: the standard model (29,800 KRW), remote control model (44,800 KRW), circulator model (69,800 KRW), and remote control air circulator (29,800 KRW).
The Electroman standard fan is a model focused on basic functions. Since its first release in April last year, the initial stock of 40,000 units sold out completely, and this year Emart plans to sell 50,000 units.
