Seongdong-gu Supports Work Environment Improvement for Handmade Shoe Manufacturers
District supports handmade shoe manufacturers with up to 3 million KRW for indoor environment improvements... Replacement of ventilation facilities such as ducts and fans, installation of fire prevention systems, also aiding small-scale clothing companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is taking steps to support the improvement of the poor working environment of handmade shoe manufacturers in Seongsu-dong to enhance occupational health rights and improve workplace air quality.
Due to the nature of the handmade shoe production process, which involves leather cutting, grinding, and bonding work, the workplaces have high demands for indoor environment improvements related to ventilation, such as fine dust and odors.
Accordingly, the district has secured 200 million KRW in city funds to implement the ‘Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoe Manufacturers Workplace Environment Improvement Project’ targeting about 70 handmade shoe manufacturers located in Seongsu-dong.
This project, aimed at the regionally specialized industry of handmade shoe manufacturers in Seongsu-dong, supports up to 3 million KRW per company (with a 10% self-payment) for expenses incurred during workplace environment improvement construction.
The support includes replacing ducts, suction devices, and ventilators to improve air quality, as well as organizing old wiring, replacing fire detectors, and fire extinguishers for indoor safety.
The district plans to complete the selection of construction companies for the environmental improvement project and start accepting applications from participating companies from May. Eligible applicants are small-scale handmade shoe manufacturers registered in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, with fewer than 10 regular employees.
To select companies, document screening and on-site surveys to check the degree of aging of workplace facilities will be conducted.
