Russia's COVID-19 Cases Exceed 30,000... Moscow Nears 20,000

COVID-19, which has spread across all 85 federal subjects of Russia, has resulted in nearly 20,000 confirmed cases in the capital city, Moscow alone. Moscow city authorities are reportedly considering extending the resident movement restriction measures until the end of next month.
According to Russia's TASS news agency, on the 17th (local time), the Russian COVID-19 Import and Spread Prevention Headquarters announced that 4,070 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide in one day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 32,008 as of that day. In Moscow alone, 18,105 confirmed cases were reported. Due to COVID-19 spreading across all 85 federal subjects of Russia, the entire population has been placed under self-quarantine, restricting residents' movement. Additionally, international flights have been suspended.

As confirmed cases continue to rise, Moscow city authorities are reportedly considering extending the current self-quarantine measures for all residents, which were set to last until the end of this month, until the end of May. Starting from this day, as part of strengthened COVID-19 prevention measures, all respiratory patients, including those with colds, are required to undergo mandatory self-quarantine for two weeks. Along with this, the Russian government announced that the Victory Day parade commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, originally scheduled for May 9, will be postponed indefinitely.
