USFK Workers Banned from Base Entry for 2 Years
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu Reporter]An American worker employed by a subcontractor of the US Forces Korea (USFK), who was in quarantine due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), visited a post exchange (PX) on the military base and has been banned from entering the base for two years.
This is reportedly the first time a two-year base entry ban has been imposed since USFK announced it would impose strict penalties for violations of health measures.
On the 17th, the USFK Command announced on Facebook that the worker who violated regulations would be "prohibited from entering all USFK facilities for two years starting from April 14."
The worker was confirmed to have visited the PX and daily goods stores while in quarantine after close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. USFK emphasized that the worker's disregard for health guidelines endangered the safety of all USFK personnel and their families.
Previously, USFK had imposed salary forfeiture and demotion on soldiers who violated public health protection posture regulations. The US Eighth Army disciplined a soldier who visited a bar outside the base. USFK has declared and maintained the 'Charlie' level, the second-highest stage of the Health Protection Condition (HPCON), at all bases.
