"April 20 is Disabled Persons Day" NS Home Shopping Gifts Air Purifier to Disabled Employees
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] NS Home Shopping announced on the 17th that it has provided air purifiers to its disabled telecommuting employees in celebration of Disabled Persons Day on April 20.
NS Home Shopping used to invite disabled telecommuting employees every year on Disabled Persons Day to hold commemorative events and meetings, but this year the schedule was canceled due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Instead, they gifted air purifiers to improve the quality of the telecommuting environment. This was intended to participate in 'social distancing' while promoting the health and safety of disabled workers.
Since 2009, NS Home Shopping has employed disabled workers and provided disability allowances, various welfare benefits, as well as incentives based on job performance evaluations. In fact, the average length of service for these employees is 8 years and 9 months. As of the end of last year, NS Home Shopping’s disabled employment rate was 4.94%, exceeding the mandatory employment rate of 3.1% set by the Disabled Employment Act.
Moreover, NS Home Shopping is actively working not only to establish a foundation for the independence of disabled workers but also to protect the rights and interests of disabled customers. In 2014, it obtained the 'Web Accessibility Quality Certification,' awarded to excellent sites that have improved accessibility for information-vulnerable groups such as disabled persons.
Especially since last month, they have started a home shopping telephone order service for the visually impaired. This policy was implemented by accepting proposals from the Korea Blind Union, allowing visually impaired individuals who have difficulty using mobile apps to receive the same benefits via telephone orders. NS Home Shopping has completed training for all counselors on how to respond to visually impaired customers’ telephone orders, and the counselors provide not only order assistance but also product explanations and recommendations.
Kim Ki-hwan, Executive Director of NS Home Shopping’s CS Support Office, said, "Supporting the independence and rightful exercise of rights of disabled people, who are members of our society, is part of NS Home Shopping’s pursuit of creating life values and sharing happiness. We will continue to do our best to fulfill the corporate social responsibility for the happiness of disabled persons."
