View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has signed an agreement with domestic nuclear power plant component SMEs to develop the localization of nuclear power plant components and equipment.
On the 14th, KHNP announced that it signed an agreement at the headquarters of Unistec in Gangseo-gu, Busan, to develop equipment for measuring the seismic gap of steel frames inside containment buildings using domestic technology.
This agreement is the ninth since KHNP launched the nuclear power plant "Component and Equipment Localization Task Force (TF)" in September last year.
The seismic gap refers to the space that must be maintained to prevent the containment building walls of a nuclear power plant from colliding with internal structures during an earthquake.
Through this agreement, the two parties will invest 300 million KRW by March next year to cooperate in developing equipment for measuring the seismic gap.
A KHNP official explained, "KHNP will actively support the test bed and necessary personnel with research funds of 250 million KRW. The equipment to be localized this time will remotely measure the seismic gap in high or narrow sections instead of workers, preventing safety accidents and improving the accuracy of measurement results."
He added, "Once localization is completed, it is expected to contribute to the protection of workers and securing the technological competitiveness of SMEs."
Meanwhile, KHNP plans to continue promoting and purchasing 100 localization projects for components and equipment by investing 100 billion KRW by 2022.

Jung Jae-hoon, CEO of KHNP, stated, "Just as we achieved the great success of exporting the domestically developed in-core nuclear instrument to Romania earlier this year with partner SMEs, we plan to actively support partner SMEs in pioneering markets using KHNP’s brand."
