Son Hak-kyu: "Democratic Party's All-In on Honam Is 'Suicidal'... A Sweep Must Be Prevented"
“Overwhelming Support Makes the Ruling Party Arrogant”
“Vote for Minsaengdang, Which Upholds the Principles of Political Reform”
“A Third Party Is Needed for Proper Governance”
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Sohn Hak-kyu, Standing Election Committee Chairman of the Minsheng Party, addressed voters in Honam on the 14th, saying, "We must not allow the Democratic Party of Korea to sweep Honam. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a suicidal act. The nature of vested-interest politics is not to feed the fish once caught," adding, "Overwhelming support will only make the ruling party arrogant and will surely result in their betrayal of Honam."
Chairman Sohn held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning and said, "Give one vote to the Minsheng Party as a signal for the arrogant pro-Moon government and ruling party to come to their senses."
Regarding satellite parties for proportional representation, he stated, "The mixed-member proportional representation system has become a patchwork due to the vested interests of the two major parties, and ultimately unconstitutional satellite parties have been formed," emphasizing, "You should vote for the only centrist pragmatic party that has upheld the principles of political reform by fielding both constituency and proportional representation candidates, the Minsheng Party, number 3 on the ballot."
He continued, "Parties that field only proportional representation candidates without constituency candidates should not be allowed to participate in elections," adding, "The election law should be amended so that only parties that field at least 20 constituency candidates, the minimum number for a parliamentary negotiation group, can field proportional representation candidates. This is to ensure equal value of proportional votes among proportional representation candidates from different parties."
Chairman Sohn said, "Every morning, new reckless remarks pour out. This not only incites political disgust but also divides public opinion," and added, "Even if the ruling party secures a majority or 180 seats, how can they unify the people and properly govern? The ruling party's easy victory and the main opposition party's narrow win have now become meaningless."

He also stated, "The two major parties, which should bear the greatest responsibility for the current chaos, have yet to break free from old-fashioned politics," and said, "There must be a strong third party that can both check the two major parties on one hand and cooperate with them on the other for proper governance."
