This is the highest number selected among metropolitan cities and provinces except for Seoul Special City.
The ‘Top 100 Night Tourism Spots’ is a new core project promoted by the Korea Tourism Organization this year to revive the stagnant tourism industry and increase the length of stay.
Selections are made based on a comprehensive evaluation of night tourism attractiveness, accessibility, security and safety, and regional contribution.
By region, the selected spots are ▲Mokpo City (Gatbawi Marine Pedestrian Bridge, Dancing Sea Fountain, Mokpo Marine Cable Car) ▲Yeosu City (Romantic Pocha, Yeosu Marine Cable Car, Yeosu Night Sea & Romantic Busking) ▲Gwangyang City (Gubongsan Observatory) ▲Damyang County (Platanus Starlight & Moonlight Road) ▲Gokseong County (Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village) ▲Boseong County (Boseong Tea Field Light Festival) ▲Jangheung County (Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival) ▲Gangjin County (Night Dream) ▲Shinan County (Cheonsa Bridge).
Representatively, the Mokpo Gatbawi Marine Pedestrian Bridge is equipped with nightscape lighting on the pedestrian bridge, creating a romantic atmosphere where visitors can enjoy beautiful night views.
The Dancing Sea Fountain is the world’s first ultra-large floating music fountain, creating a beautiful spectacle through the harmony of water, light, and music.
The Mokpo Marine Cable Car is the longest cable car in Korea (3.23 km), allowing visitors to enjoy the golden sunset and night view of the Dadohae (Sea of Many Islands).
Yeosu Romantic Pocha and Yeosu Night Sea & Romantic Busking are romantic streets where families, friends, and couples can walk while enjoying the beautiful Yeosu night sea. Various performances and festivals are held, offering plenty of attractions.
The Yeosu Marine Cable Car offers an open view of the Dadohae centered around the Yeosu Expo site and Odongdo Island, along with the beautiful scenery of the Yeosu night sea.
The Gubongsan Observatory in Gwangyang is located at an altitude of 473 meters on Gubongsan Mountain, featuring a 9.4-meter metal art beacon at the summit, making it a popular spot for sunrise and sunset viewing.
The Damyang Platanus Starlight & Moonlight Road operates a starlight and moonlight travel program with humanities experts every second and fourth Saturday from next month through October. Along with this, humanities lectures, guided bamboo forest walks, starlight tours, and performances are held, attracting popularity.
The province expects that this selection will create new tourism demand and expand tourism consumption in the tourism industry, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19.
