Lee Nak-yeon Visits Andong and Jecheon, Appeals for "As Many Seats as Needed to Overcome the COVID Crisis"
[Jecheon (Chungbuk) = Asia Economy, Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Nak-yeon, Co-Chairman of the Democratic Party's Joint Election Countermeasures Committee, continued his campaign targeting the Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) region, considered a 'Democratic Party hostile area,' by visiting Andong, Gyeongbuk on the 13th. He then moved to Jecheon-Danyang, Chungbuk, known as a battleground district, to support the candidate.
In the afternoon, Chairman Lee campaigned in support of candidate Lee Sam-geol, running in Andong and Yecheon, Gyeongbuk. He emphasized his connection to the region, saying, "This is my third or fourth visit to Andong as of today." He stressed, "Andong is a place imbued with Korea's foremost patriotic spirit. I firmly believe that during this national crisis, the patriotism of Andong citizens will once again be activated."
Regarding candidate Lee Sam-geol, he said, "This National Assembly election in Andong is a choice between selecting an administrator or a politician. Now is the time for an administrator." He added, "Comrade Lee Sam-geol has managed affairs both centrally and locally. In this national crisis, an administrative-type politician who can gather the people's will, make efficient decisions, and execute them quickly is also necessary. Therefore, I ask you to elect candidate Lee Sam-geol as a diligent worker."
Chairman Lee then moved to support candidate Lee Hu-sam in Jecheon-Danyang, Chungbuk. This area is considered a 'battleground district' with a close race within the margin of error against the United Future Party candidate. He expressed strong support, saying, "Among the 300 National Assembly members, if you were to name three who relentlessly focus on their regions, Lee Hu-sam would be one of them."
He continued, "Since two years ago, I have been hearing from Assemblyman Lee Hu-sam about the Jecheon station area urban regeneration project, the acceleration of the Chungbuk Line, and the construction of the Jecheon-Yeongwol highway until my ears hurt." He added, "Last summer, I followed Assemblyman Lee Hu-sam up to Danyang Guinsa Temple. Even though I was sweating and out of breath, he kept talking only about the highway. Lee Hu-sam is someone who shows no leniency or favoritism when it comes to the region."
He further stated, "At that time, I realized that the projects Assemblyman Lee Hu-sam promised to the citizens of Jecheon and Danyang will surely be realized. I ask you to continue to support Assemblyman Lee Hu-sam."
During the campaign, Chairman Lee also rebutted the United Future Party's claim of 'checking the reckless governance of the Moon Jae-in administration.' He said, "The opposition party says they must check the reckless governance of the Moon Jae-in administration. Leaders and media worldwide say Korea's response to COVID-19 is exemplary, excellent, and textbook, but the opposition calls it reckless." He criticized, "If the current approach is reckless, I want to ask the opposition if they want the COVID response to be more lax or to fizzle out."
