"116 Cases of COVID-19 Re-Positivity After Recovery... High Possibility of Reactivation" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] As of midnight on the 13th, there have been 116 cases of domestic COVID-19 patients who tested positive again after recovery.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, stated at the regular briefing in the afternoon that 116 cases were confirmed as re-positive after being released from isolation. Among these cases nationwide, 48 were reported in Daegu, 10 in Gyeonggi, and 35 in Gyeongbuk.
Head Jung said, "Although the majority are in their 20s and 50s, cases are distributed across all age groups," and added, "Investigations and various tests are currently underway regarding the re-positive cases." She further explained, "Many experts and health authorities believe that since the re-positive cases were confirmed within a very short period after release from isolation, it is more likely that the existing virus was reactivated due to the patient's immunity rather than reinfection."

The health authorities plan to monitor and supplement management guidelines regarding the possibility of secondary transmission caused by re-positive cases. Head Jung said, "We are enhancing guidelines by implementing comprehensive health education and recommending self-quarantine upon release from isolation, as well as actively monitoring symptomatic cases at public health centers," and added, "We will finalize these measures after gathering opinions from local governments."
