Min Hyung-bae Gwangju Gwangsan Candidate's Pledge to Attract 'Upcycle Cluster'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 13th that he would "simultaneously address environmental and resource issues by creating a local upcycling ecosystem."
Candidate Min stated, "Due to the plastic waste crisis and the spread of climate emergency actions, social awareness about environmental protection and the transition to a resource-circulating society is increasing," adding, "Recently, upcycling has also been utilized in the production of masks and disinfection machines to overcome COVID-19."
He explained, "Upcycling is gaining attention as a future new growth industry because it can transform and produce high value-added materials or products by separating and collecting materials generated from waste and processing them through various steps."
He continued, "Recently, employment in the environmental sector has increased by an average of 6.4% annually over five years, ranking first in employment growth rate among 21 industries, so more attention should be paid to environmental jobs."

He added, "The Ministry of Environment is focusing on the 'upcycling sector' as a representative new industry for green industrial innovation growth and plans to announce a comprehensive plan for fostering the upcycling industry in the first half of this year," and said, "Accordingly, we will attract an 'upcycling cluster' that will realize technological innovation growth support linked to local industries, direct employment of residents, utilization of idle manpower, and agglomeration."
