Yoo Seung-min: "Ruling Party's Claim of 180 Seats is Arrogant... Difficult but Not That Much of a Defeat"

Yoo Seung-min: "Please Help Jin Su-hee Who Has Walked the Path of Reform Conservatism, We Will Truly Change the National Assembly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Yoo Seung-min, a member of the Future United Party, criticized the ruling party's claim of securing '180 seats' on the 12th as "arrogant talk" and said, "I think they really consider the people to be fools."
On the same day, after holding a small policy meeting with local youths alongside Jin Soo-hee, the Future United Party candidate running in Jung-gu Seongdong-gap, Seoul, Yoo told reporters, "I saw the ruling Democratic Party's internal poll results. Except for parts of Yeongnam and Gangwon, everything is blue," referring to the ruling party's dominance.
Yoo said, "I think this election is very difficult, but will they really suffer a crushing defeat with about 180 seats as they say? From visiting the field, it doesn't seem so," adding, "If that happens, I think the country is really going in the wrong direction." He continued, "We will remain humble and do our best until the end."
He also apologized again for the candidates' offensive remarks. Yoo said, "I believe that the Future United Party and conservative parties must never make such mistakes again. It's regrettable that we couldn't take a perfect and decisive action this time." Addressing the young voters shaken by the offensive remarks, he said, "I always think that conservative parties have no hope if they fail to win the hearts of young citizens," adding, "I believe that young voters, except for a very small minority who blindly support the Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party, will think rationally. Because they are more rational than anyone, we will not lose votes unilaterally among the younger generation."
At the campaign support event, Yoo emphasized, "Candidate Jin has walked the path of reform conservatism together for the past three years. If Jin enters the National Assembly, Korean conservative politics will change," adding, "The Democratic Party will be nervous if such a person goes to the National Assembly because they can carry out proper reforms."
He appealed, "Young voters who are uninterested in politics or dislike the Future United Party unconditionally, please reconsider. To change Korean politics, instead of voting out of habit for the well-fed and affluent Democratic Party candidates, please give a chance to the reformist candidates of the Future United Party," and added, "Please compare who can really do politics properly and cast your vote accurately."
In response, candidate Jin said, "The future of the younger generation is closely linked to economic issues. Especially university students coming from rural areas feel tremendous inconvenience and financial burden regarding housing," emphasizing, "If I become a member of the National Assembly, I will create a dormitory village around Hanyang University, which will be beneficial for both students and local residents' livelihoods, making it the first model in Korea and Seoul to solve housing problems."

He also criticized the government's response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), saying, "The government is too self-congratulatory. Even if COVID-19 subsides, we will continuously face new infectious disease problems due to climate change and environmental issues," and pointed out, "In that case, the quarantine authorities must be given full authority to solve the problem solely from the perspective of public health and quarantine, without political or diplomatic considerations." He added, "If this had been done this time, we could have prevented the uncontrollable spread of patients by completely restricting entry from China at the early stage," appealing, "214 precious lives were lost, but the government is praising itself. Please make sure to judge this government."
