[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Candidates from the Democratic Party of Korea in the Gwangju region strengthened their determination for victory in the April 15 general election and focused all efforts on rallying their support base through a joint campaign rally held on the last holiday before the election on the 12th.
According to the Democratic Party’s Gwangju City Party on the 12th, the joint rally held at the Mudeung Library intersection in Buk-gu, Gwangju, was organized to translate the high expectations of Gwangju citizens for the general election, confirmed by the highest early voting rate ever, into a victory in the April 15 general election.
On that day, ▲ Lee Hyung-seok, Co-Chairman of the Central Party’s Joint Election Committee ▲ Lee Gae-ho, Chairman of the Honam Region Election Committee ▲ Song Gap-seok, Chairman of the Gwangju Election Committee, along with candidates ▲ Jo Oh-seop (Buk-gu Gap) ▲ Yoon Young-duk (Dongnam Gap) ▲ Lee Byung-hoon (Dongnam Eul) ▲ Yang Hyang-ja (Seogu Eul) ▲ Lee Yong-bin (Gwangsan Gap) ▲ Min Hyung-bae (Gwangsan Eul) all participated, appealing for unified support for the two parties in the general election.
The candidates expressed their gratitude, saying, “We thank the voters who recorded the highest early voting rate ever despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19,” and emphasized, “We earnestly carry the expectations and wishes of Gwangju citizens and ask for your support in the April 15 vote so that the Democratic Party and the Citizen Party can overcome COVID-19 and protect the lives of the people.”
Song Gap-seok, Head of the Democratic Party’s Gwangju Election Headquarters, pointed out, “The Minsaeng Party and some independent candidates are making false pledges that they will join the Democratic Party if elected,” and criticized, “Although the Democratic Party has clearly stated through party resolutions that such admissions will never be allowed, repeating these claims is an act of deceiving voters.”
