View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is conducting a full survey of 176 city bus stops within the district to improve convenience for bus passengers and is initiating a name change.
The bus stop for bus number 145, located 20 meters ahead of Exit 5 of Dapsimni Station, is situated in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu, near Yongdap-dong Rodeo Street and the traditional market. However, the stop's name is labeled as ‘Yongdap-dong Dongbu Market Dapsimni Station,’ which has continuously caused complaints from residents due to potential misunderstandings.
In response, the district began the renaming process at the end of last year. After reviewing the appropriateness with residents and collecting their opinions, on the 3rd, approval for the name change was received from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Starting from the 15th, the name will be changed to ‘Yongdap-dong Rodeo Street Dapsimni Station,’ reflecting actual usage demand and accessibility.
Beginning with this name change, Seongdong-gu conducted a full survey of 176 city bus stops in the area from March 2 to 31.
This is to provide realistic names that match surrounding facilities for the convenience of bus users and to maintain unique local place names throughout Seongdong-gu.
Through the survey, the district identified four bus stops where the surrounding building names had changed or buildings were demolished but the old building names remained on the stops, as well as stops located in Seongdong-gu but labeled with building names from other districts. The district is currently proceeding with the name change process for these four stops.
The four stops are ‘Norun Market Front,’ ‘Ttukdo Market Alley,’ ‘Seongsu-dong Daeho Villa Entrance,’ and ‘Daegyeong Middle School’ bus stops.
The names will be limited to within 15 characters and prioritized based on unique place names, public institutions, cultural tourist sites, and apartment names to reflect the surrounding facilities realistically and preserve regional representativeness. After selecting the names, a two-week period for collecting residents’ opinions will be held through the local community center, and once approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the name change process will be completed. The four stops are currently in the resident opinion collection phase.
