Park Hyung-jun "Did the President Hold a Key Election in Jeju... Suspicion of Support for Song Jae-ho"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party has raised suspicions of election manipulation, urging clarification on whether President Moon Jae-in supported Song Jae-ho, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Jeju Gap, in relation to Song's remarks.
On the 10th, Park Hyung-joon, co-chairman of the United Future Party's joint election committee, stated in a press release, "The president must clearly explain whether he received a request from candidate Song Jae-ho."
Previously, candidate Song claimed that President Moon's attendance at the April 3rd Jeju Massacre memorial ceremony and the promise to amend the April 3rd Special Act for compensation to victims' families were actions taken on his behalf. When other candidates raised concerns, Song issued a statement on the 9th saying, "I intended to convey that the president's promise included my efforts, but the remarks made during the campaign were exaggerated."
In response, Chairman Park said, "Song Jae-ho's remarks are very specific and, considering the context, there is sufficient reason to believe them. Song did not clearly deny the claims but said they were exaggerated," emphasizing, "We hope the president will clarify whether he has ever heard such things from Song and how Song asked for help."
He continued, "The Democratic Party of Korea must deeply apologize for attempting to use the April 3rd incident, the greatest historical trauma for Jeju residents, in any form for election purposes," urging Song to resign.
Chairman Park pointed out, "If Song Jae-ho actually spoke to the president and such events occurred, Song would be the principal planner and executor of an unacceptable election manipulation, and if the Blue House denies involvement, Song would have falsely involved the president for his own election," adding, "This is morally unacceptable and legally constitutes false information disclosure. In any case, it is an act that deeply wounds the hearts of Jeju residents."

He also criticized President Moon's on-site activities, accusing him of continuing election manipulation. Chairman Park said, "Despite the United Future Party's continuous accusations that the Moon Jae-in administration is engaging in cunning election manipulation, President Moon continues on-site visits almost every other day," adding, "Considering the context of Song's remarks, there is strong reasonable suspicion that the Blue House stepped in to support the president's close aide candidate following the Ulsan election fraud, and that such incidents are not limited to Jeju."
