View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will provide 'Child Care Coupons' to families with children to revitalize the local economy, which has been weakened due to the spread of COVID-19, and to alleviate the economic burden of child-rearing.
The support targets approximately 14,500 children who were receiving child allowances as of March 2020 and are under the age of 7.
Each child will receive electronic gift certificates worth about 400,000 KRW, called Care Points.
Care Points will be provided via the National Happiness Card or Child Happiness Card held by the child's guardian. Cardholders can apply ex officio with their consent through text message (MMS) without visiting the local community center, enabling non-face-to-face application.
On the other hand, guardians who do not possess a card can apply during the first period from April 6 to 17, or the second period from April 18 to 29, either through the Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr) or at the local community center where the child resides, and the card will be delivered to the registered address.
If you wish to change the card to receive the points, you can apply from 9 a.m. on April 6 to 6 p.m. on April 10 via the Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr) or at the local community center.
The points are scheduled to be distributed on April 13 and can be freely used like cash within Seoul. However, to promote the local economy including small business owners, usage is restricted at certain stores such as large supermarkets, department stores, online shopping malls, and entertainment establishments. Detailed restrictions on usage will be announced on the Bokjiro website on the 13th, the day the Care Points are distributed.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We hope this support will alleviate the economic burden on families with children who face significant economic and psychological challenges due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation and emergency care needs, and also help revitalize the local economy."
