Hyundai Motor Extends Suspension of US Plant Operations Until Next Month 1
Kia Motors Georgia Plant Also to Halt Operations Until the 24th of This Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Kia Motors has extended the shutdown period of its U.S. factories. This measure is in response to the decline in automobile demand and the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 9th that its Alabama plant in the U.S. will remain shut down until the 1st of next month. The Alabama plant halted its production line starting from the 18th of last month after one employee tested positive for COVID-19. Recently, one employee also died due to COVID-19. Hyundai Motor has prioritized preventing the spread of COVID-19 and ensuring employee safety, deciding to extend the shutdown period once more from the 10th of this month.
Kia Motors is also suspending operations at its Georgia plant until the 24th of this month. The Georgia plant has been halted since the 30th of last month.

Hyundai’s Brazil plant will continue its shutdown until the 24th of this month as well. Originally scheduled to be closed from March 23rd until this date, the closure period was extended following government directives.
